EPDM O-Rings & Seals

Ethylene-propylene is a copolymer of ethylene and propylene (EPM), or, in some cases, a terpolymer due to the addition of a diene monomer (EPDM). EPDM O-rings have great weathering resistance. A special characteristic of EPDM is its resistance to certain brake and hydraulic fluids (including Pydraul® and Fyrquel and Skydrol®).EPDM O-rings and seals have a good resistance to steam. It needs to be taken into consideration that EPDM is not suitable with most hydrocarbons, such as oils, gasoline, kerosene and petroleum oils.

EPDM

    EPDM performs well in

    • Alcohols
    • Automotive brake fluids
    • Dilute acids & dilute alkalis
    • Ketones (MEK, acetone)
    • Silicone oils & greases
    • Steam (up to 204 °C)
    • Water

EPDM does not perform well in

    • Aliphatic & aromatic hydrocarbons
    • Di-ester based lubricants
    • Halogenated solvents
    • Petroleum oils

    Typical EPDM Applications

    1. Outdoor weather resistant products
    2. Drinking water seals
    3. Coolant hoses
    4. Roofing membranes
    5. Pond liners
